We are honoured to be partnering with UNICEF Australia to provide relief to the children and young people impacted by the devastating bushfires. Further information will be sent directly to all Victorian schools in the coming weeks. We are stepping up our response to the bushfire crisis by helping kids get back to school, and supporting their recovery over the longer term.

As part of our response we’re currently working with local partners, including State Schools’ Relief, to support an immediate relief package for school children whose families have lost their homes in Australia’s bushfire crisis.

The package will help provide affected children with uniforms, school shoes, textbooks and electronic learning devices in time for the new school year, which resumes in just a few weeks. We know from our work in emergencies around the world that this type of targeted support is crucial to help children who have lived through disasters.

A massive thank you to the Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation who donated AUD $1.2 million to UNICEF Australia, allowing us to scale up support for affected children and young people.

State Schools’ Relief wishes to extend our condolences to the children and many families that have been affected by the bushfires we are currently experiencing.

Since 1930 our mission has been to support children and families experiencing hardship of any nature and we would like to reiterate that SSR will continue to extend support to all those that have lost their homes, and livelihoods, as a result of the fires in Victoria.

Over the coming weeks we will be working closely with all Victorian state schools that have been affected to deliver the tangible support required for the beginning of the 2020 school year.
